The first reference about the settlement called Tynec has been from the year 1293. Its nucleus was an enclosed redoubt and several outhouses in the rise. The name Hrochuv Tynec has been linked with the village possessor the Hroch family of Mezilesice. Through the Hroch family merit the village was promoted to a small town in the year 1544 and awarded by the coat of arms and the seal derived from the Church of St. Martin. Peaceful epoch of evolution was interrupted by moments adversely affected the face of the village. For example, spoliation by soldieries of Hungary King Matthew Korvin, several burnings of the village during thirty-years war or transfer of Russian soldieries in the years 1799 and 1800. Regardless, industry was developing in the village with predominating farming at the beginning of the 19th and 20th centuries. Certainly, it was connected with the promotion of Hrochuv Tynec to the town in the year 1853 and the award of relevant rights. There were built sugar refinery (1871), railway (1899) and brickworks (1906), respectively.
From the beginning, the town was also the centre of clerical and cultural life. From the oldest ages, the parish church and the Premonstratensian monastic order in a local monastery have played an important role: there were built some momentous buildings such as a new mill house, castle, stone chapel, public house, brewery and distillery. The attention was also giving to education. The first references have been about parochial school, stand-alone school was built in the year 1766, at the beginning of the 20th century multiclass town school and in the year 1952 another new school building. In the town performed popular education organization "Obcanska beseda" as well dramatic amateurs association. Ever since the 1878 continuously up to now has pursued worth activity of voluntary fire brigade; the association Sokol was founded in the year 1887. Status of the town rose up in the post-war period, from that time Hrochuv Tynec has performed function of natural regional centre and presently it is rated among top of municipalities in the district.
